Well, it’s official. Franklin Graham’s invitation to speak at the Pentagon’s National Day of Prayer event has been rescinded by the Army. The National Day of Prayer Task Force, which Graham is an honorary chairman of, will no longer be a part of the event either. The reason? Muslims serving in the military are offended by a comment Graham made in 2001. Not long after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Graham publicly stated that Islam is an evil religion. Now, in 2010, his remarks are being called inappropriate and offensive by Muslims, the Military Foundation for Religious Freedom and, surprisingly, the Army. Ironically, Graham spoke at a Pentagon prayer service in 2003, only two years after his comments, despite the uproar of Muslims and activists who opposed his appearance.
Why is the Army giving in to the shouts from these people now? Certainly they expected this upheaval to occur considering it did last time Graham was to speak at a national prayer service? Did they really think that the leftist Military Foundation for Religious Freedom would overlook their choice of this speaker or his comments? If the Army simply wanted to give an invitation just to take it back (We called that “Indian giving” when I was growing up), wouldn’t it have been easier to have chosen Rick Warren or Jim Wallis to begin with? After all, everyone knows they’re the left’s favorite evangelical Christians.
Muslims are not the people creating the problem. The problem is the politically correct government and American left. The people with an agenda for political correctness are using Muslims as the face of censorship in order to silence Graham. Rather than create controversy with their own pictures or names attached, they hide behind the skirts (oops…the abayas) of their Muslim counterparts.
What? You don’t believe me yet? The situation with Franklin Graham isn’t evidence enough? What about the attempt to remove “Under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance or the attempt to remove the connection of “In God We Trust” to anything related to the government and American society? Still not enough?
Will this convince you? Those with an agenda for political correctness are even attacking their own people! South Park is one of the most leftist and liberal animated adult shows on cable television. It’s known for its attempts to silence conservatives and the likes of George W. Bush and Sarah Palin by animating them and attacking the resulting cartoon characters, hoping that it will “inform” viewers and further the liberal agenda. However, the table has turned…well, slightly. After airing an episode last week that depicted the Prophet Muhammad in a bear suit, the show was criticized by a radical Muslim website. What did the Comedy Central network do? They censored the second part of the episode that aired this week. Any mention of Prophet Muhammad was bleeped and the character representing the prophet was labeled with the word, “censored.”
The political correctness pushers are not limiting their attacks to conservatives. They are aggressively chastising conservatives, liberals, progressives, Christians, and common American citizens.
Political correctness resolves nothing! It’s time for Americans to man-up and speak their minds. Political incorrectness is not an excuse for animosity or disrespect; it enables people to speak the truth. Just as Franklin Graham defended his controversial statement, the Americans who are being silenced should stand their ground and protect the freedom of speech. It’s time to be frank!
Yes. Let's be frank! It'd be great to be able to actually state facts and mature opinions and not get your hand slapped ... or worse.
